Trad Jazz nights

VieuxCarreOn Sunday 26 April we are hosting our first Trad Jazz night. If it’s a success – and with your support it will be – we intend to make Trad Jazz a regular part of our programme. Please note the earlier than usual opening time of 7pm.

We start with one of the finest Trad Jazz bands in the North and certainly the longest lasting – The Vieux Carré Jazzmen. The band is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The personnel has changed many times since 1955 but the infectious New Orleans spirit remains ever present.

The band plays popular songs, rags, blues and marches from the 1920s and 1930s, including Louis Armstrong, Clarence Williams, Jabbo Smith and Clancy Hayes.

Bandleader Brian Bennett says: ” The jazzmen are going back to their roots playing at The Globe which is a ‘stone’s throw’ from the old New Orleans Jazz Club behind the Central Station. Hope you can join us this Sunday (26 April) – a terrific night of trad nostalgia is assured.”
