Niffi Osiyemi Trio
Saturday 8 September, 7:30pm
New jazz vocalist revives old songs
Niffi Osiyemi has recently been building a reputation as a fine, emotive jazz singer, gaining enthusiastic responses from audiences and positive reviews. Her interest in jazz covers a wide range – from her love of the early jazz of the 1920s and 30s played to accompany swing dancers, through to those singers rooted in the blues and gospel whose performances gave vent to the full range of human emotion.
Niffi is joined tonight by Alan Law (piano), and Paul Grainger (bass) to perform a repertoire from the first half of the last century drawing on some favourite jazz, blues, gospel, and swing tunes.
Expect a few standards, along with many from off the beaten track, all given a new twist.
Admission £6 on the door (£3 students)
