Paul Booth with Strictly Smokin’ Big Band

Saturday 17 February, 8pm

Strictly Smokin’ Big Band and Jazz.Coop present SSBB featuring Paul Booth.

Please note that this gig is not at Jazz.Coop’s usual venue, The Globe, but instead is being held nearby at Alphabetti Theatre.

Paul BoothStrictly Smokin’ Big Band, based in Newcastle, is one of the best big bands in the UK. Its huge repertoire ranges from familiar swing to ultra contemporary. The band has a long, strong association with Jazz.Coop. It headlined the coop’s launch gig in April 2013 and has played at several notable Jazz.Coop gigs since.

In recent years Strictly Smokin’ Big Band gigs have featured renowned guest artists including Anthony Strong, Hailey Tuck, Bruce Adams and Joe Stilgoe. International saxophone star Paul Booth is the latest.

Paul’s performance is a “mix of Michael Breckerish postbop virtuosity and languidly hot ballad-playing”. This, combined with his original Afro-Cuban/ Brazilian compositions, and the Strictly Smokin’ Big Band is sure to be a night not to miss.

Presented by The Strictly Smokin’ Big Band, Jazz.Coop and Alphabetti Theatre.
